OK MikhailT, I'm not sure if you didn't actually read my posts, are just an unhelpful person, or if I was unclear in some way. Let me break it down.

If the iPad devices are as powerful as our computers, we would not be experiencing any issues in Safari. You're talking about just 256MB of RAM in the first-gen iPad and 512MB in second-gen iPad which are able to handle the sites in Safari much better than it does in the first-gen iPad. Add 2GB-4GB to the iPad, Mobile Safari would be able to handle 20 sites without any refreshing required.
Yes, I acknowledged that Macs have significantly more RAM than the 512mb of iPad 2's, but that doesn't remove the possibility. If the iPad had 2gb of RAM it would conceivably happen eventually. Say on my macbook running lion I were to open 30 safari tabs (for some people that is not uncommon), then my wife comes and uploads pictures, edits them in Lightroom, then plays some angry birds. Then my (hypothetical) kids come along and play a few hardware intensive games, and maybe open a new safari window to browse the internet. Then I come back and write some word documents and excel spreadsheets. I go to bed, then go to work the next day (who knows what all my wife and kids do on the computer). EVERYTHING is left "open" because we are on Lion so nobody closes anything. I come home and go back to my safari tabs. Is it even POSSIBLE to have some of the tabs disappear or need to be refreshed to view? Would some of my full screen "spaces" apps disappear as well? What if my macbook only has 1gb of RAM? That's only double the iPad 2. I don't think it's that inconceivable

Secondly, Apple didn't take open/close lights away, it is now an optional setting in the Systems Preferences. The reason Apple did this is because they want to remove the idea of "open"/"closed" states.
I know why they did it. And that is the way Apple wants it, that's why it's default. If it were up to Apple the option to put it back would be gone. But they were smart enough to anticipate the "outrage"

The software are starting to catch up to the hardware in terms of speed that we can leave applications and return to it in the same state. Apple wants to be able to introduce the concept of *resuming* apps, not *closed*. When you restart Lion with open apps, Lion will restart with the same open apps in the same state. This is the future on Mac OS X. No more closing required, especially with a fast SSD.
This is my point of concern. No closing could cause apps to "close" that you didn't want them to. Now most of them would be able to *resume* as left with no issue. But would 30 safari tabs be handled the same way?

The hard drive/ssd in today's computers are much faster than the NANDs in the current iPad. Resuming an app is much faster than it would be on a modern computer. Look at how fast apps are resuming from the previous state in the iPad 2 and you can see how much the hardware difference is affecting the performance.
speed of resuming has nothing to do with what I'm talking about...

The other thing that you need to consider is the memory swap. Mac OS X have swap, iOS doesn't. Even if you run out of free memory on the Macs, you'll begin to switch to the harddrive/ssd to use as virtual memory.Well finally we get to something that might actually be helpful. This would help to explain why Macs don't do this. But are there any issues/concerns with this?

If you had tried running Lion, you would know by now that this is simply not the case.
    Well, I obviously haven't. That's why I'm asking.

No, it's quite ridiculous in fact.

Regarding what Dav posted, would I need to be jailbroken on 3.2.2?

just got my iPad 1 in today and the firmware is old school.

I know 4.3 has a tethered jailbreak on it right now AND it has some battery issues and what not

Would I be able to somehow update to 4.2.2 INSTEAD of 4.3? That way I'd hold on to good battery life and untethered jailbreak. Once more, I am NOT jailbroken right now so I am wondering if I need to do that first.

Step one would be to download and run TinyUmbrella, this will check to see just what the previous owner did. If he never saved SHSH Blobs then your only option would be to upgrade to 4.3. There is no real need to jailbreak first.

I have an ipad2 that is loaded with 5 keynote presentations, 50 or so pics and vids and some pages and numbers stuff - easiest way to migrate these? I have iwork on the mba...dropbox? - that's a but cumbersome - hard to get the key docs out of keynote....

    thanks!

The latest dropbox app for iPad and iPhone allows for batch uploading to your account, so that should save you some time. I save nearly all my project files in Dropbox now so I can simply work between computers, ipad and iphone.

There's a iOS app called PhotoSync that can help you syncing between devices.

To install Airview app linky above, your iOS device need to be jailbroken and have appsyn. As ipad2 isn't jailbreakable, keep the app and wait for jb.

Really good app, I enjoying it, I can youtube from iphone 4 to iphone 4, without problem.

Only thing isnt working for me, my dj doesnt seem to have the option for airplay :(

Thanks a lot for your fast reply Blackwind , but is there any way for a Mac user to install this ipa without JB my ipad2, anyone can help, pls;)

My iBook, purchased new in June, is my first Apple computer. Since OS X has a FreeBSD userland I can cope with parts of it, but what I cannot figure out is how to calm all the white and white-with-grey-striped real estate down in Aqua. I would like these to be a light blue-gray, in keeping with every other desktop I have ever used, but not even very many themes control this.

What do I do to simply colorize these big white spaces slightly? The stripes are irritating, and I would like to get rid of those, but all that white space is just glare-y.

    TIA

    -Jet

    Hey,

I'm looking for an online Gallery which lets me using Picassa.
I have been doing some searching but i'm unable to find one that actaully works.

I'm currently using lightbox here. (http://hampshiredoeyouthforum.uphero.com/Gallery.html) But we are after a way of uploading images quicker, and also from mobiles etc.

Picassa it's self doesn't offer any GOOD service of presenting your images on your website.

    thanks guys

Does anyone know what this is about? -Do you want the application "netsession_mac_b94eec3" to accept incoming network connections?

I get this after restarting my laptop sometimes (which isn't that often, it goes weeks without being turned off), looked at that suggested thread but seemed to be another problem to this. Anyone any ideas? I've denied it this time... And this thread is the only thing that comes up from a google search.

Wondered if anyone would have any use for a PC around here...(Most likely not) Would prefer some sort of localish trade/sale :)
Its a Scenic P230, 3.2GHz P4, 1GB Ram, 80GB HDD, 1 DVD RW and one DVD drive. Has PCIx16, with a Nvidia 6200 in there atm.

    Where are you from?

Just looking for a AirPlay enabled dock or speaker system that'll allow me easily stream audio from my iDevices. Does any one have anything like this or have any recommendations? The easier the system is to use the better. Looking to keep it under $300. Thanks!

The JBL On Air was released yesterday and is available for sale. Picked one up at BestBuy, but I would not recommend. The sound coming from this thing sounds like a clock radio with no warmth whatsoever. For $350, I would expect this thing to rival the Bose Sound Dock or the Sonos S5. Even the discontinued JBL 200P sounds much better.

I was experiencing the same problems as others after installing DP3.

That is, installation seemed ok, UNTIL it got to to "moving items into place" after which it hung.

I forced a restart, and ended up with the grey screen and spinning gear.

    I followed insomniac321123's suggestion:
    - rebooted to Snow Leopard
    - opened the root Library folder
    - opened the Updates folder and located the "lionswupdate.pkg"
Note: it was located in a folder named "041-0870"
    The pathway is (root)/Library/Updates/041-0870/lionswupdate.pkg
    - double-clicked that, re-ran the installer app.
    - this time, when it got to the "moving items into place" segment, the task finished (in relatively short time) and I received "the installation was successful".

After this, I was able to restart and get a "good boot" to 10.7 build 11A444d.

    Other observations:
When I _shut down_ Lion the first time after the update, it seemed to take extra time, with quite a bit of disk activity. I'm going to _guess_ that the problem may be due to files that normally get written at shutdown to be read at the next boot. These would normally be read and pre-loaded before the finder loaded, but could not be, hence the spinning wheel that prevented the finder from loading.

After I finally got a good boot after running the procedure above, and Lion corrected whatever it needed to correct at shutdown, subsequent shutdowns are "normal" again.

This was my experience exactly. I've been out of town, so I haven't been able to post very well.

Thats one of the big perks of having a second, more stable partition. Besides having another OS to fall back on, you still have access to the disk of the problematic OS.

Wow, you go out of town for awhile, come back to a hella busy store and now I have to deal with this? Your iMac shipped Ron. I am not going to tolerate allegations. Just look up my feedback on this site and ebay "rchammon". Yes, that is my store. Call the damn number and I will answer. I contacted UPS and their was a mishap at the hub. So I had to ride out their last night and repatch the label. Along with that and my store, I have had a super hard time keeping up with everything. But, I will stop and defend myself when I notice my integrity is being questioned. As for the HD it is on its way also. But, Ron, your iMac is on its way.

    Good Bye.

Well I really don't like taking chances after what happened to m other iBook G4 1.42:eek:. And I have to take my iBook to school back and forth everyday. Take it to school and then take it to my Mom's or my Dad's [whose ever day(divorced parents)]. And I really think that my iBook is going to get broken or something is going to happen. So my solution: get another computer. And the computer I'm going to get is the eMac. The iBook will come over if needed, but will primarily be used at my Dad's house. The eMac will be at my Mom's house. She is helping out A LOT - $500. I would use my PC but, she took it away from me as I was bringing my iBook over all the time so she was like, what they hey and gave it to my brother. I can't get it back. So, I'm stuck, and the eMac is the sollution.

    Here are the specs:
    512MB SDRAM DDR333 - 1 DIMM
    160GB Ultra ATA drive
    8x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
Internal Bluetooth Module + AirPort Extreme Card
Apple Keyboard & Mouse + Mac OS - U.S. English
    1.42GHz PowerPC G4
ATI Radeon 9600 w/64MB DDR video memory
    56K internal modem
    Integrated stereo speakers

I'm really happy with those specs. I don't mind the CRT. I'm also getting a Mighty Mouse.

    Order Subtotal: $1,032.00
    Free Shipping: $0.00
    Estimated Tax: $64.50
    Estimated Total: $1,096.50

What do you think? Will this machine do me good? Should I save up some more for an iMac? (Money is limited)

I only need $351 for it.

    Thanks,
    Matt
