i had signed up for the text message updates a few days ago... i was stuck at school all morning, and at around 10:30ish got my phone to check it out. I was expecting atleast 5 to 10 messages, like the site said. Instead, I had one. From 8:56 AM saying "the keynote will start in 30 minutes" thats it! i got no other messages at all, and got a friends iphone taken away by trying to check the website, but EDGE was waay too slow, and we got caught..

did anyone else have this issue without getting their SMS updates?

And this, my friends, is an ass-fact.

Check your actual facts before making up your own.

Just so you know there are no military applications that benefit from this.

The training programs the military uses for training would benefit from this, though I have not seen them in person because they are classified I am told they take up a massive amount of disk space and everything in the simulation is correct in terms of physics. Though these programs run on Linux and not Mac.

I just logged into my root user account in Terminal, and it seems that this security issue isn't just about the 2nd-to-last character in a password: my root password is 13 characters long, and as long as I get the first 8 characters right, it accepts the password even if the last 5 characters are excluded or incorrect.

I just tried the same thing in the Finder, and it works there too.

edit: by the way, I have 10.2.6.

I'm using LR3 on a SR Macbook Pro 2.2 with 4GB RAM (2007 version,) and it is really very acceptable. I am processing files from my D300, so they're a bit smaller than yours, and I can't compare my experience to your Macbook, but you should have no problem running LR on any newer Macbook Pro, probably even the Air, as long as you have enough RAM. The issue for me would be screen size, and the 15.4" screen seems just about right for laptop use where it doesn't seem too crowded. The one thing that seems to take a bit of processing power is when importing images, even just adding them to the library without copying them, because LR renders thumbnails of each image. This seems to put a bit of a load on processing if there are a few hundred of them. Another thing that can eat processor cycles is exporting slideshows w/music into video... but that's probably not exclusively a LR issue.

You could certainly make an application that is mostly HTML5/Javascript, that was the way that Apple originally intended for the iPhone 1. For webapps hosted externally you don't even need Xcode or a Developer license, but you can wrap a webapp into a "regular" app and then you would.

IE6 is not very forgiving. If it works in Firefox then you most likely have html error(s)... things like missing close brackets /> and table cell <td></td> can effect that in IE6 where other browsers assume it's there and will still work. Have you tried and html validator?

The HTML is fully valid, i tried it on a couple old dells and it worked on there IE6 so i am assuming it was a problem with the multi ie installation i have on my vm.

...and this for everyone who suffers from the silly gaudy childish look of OS X and misses the clean elegance of OS 9 (it not necessarily the extension conflicts and the lousy task-threading).

    1) The Classic Platinum Theme ( Installable on OS X using either's ShapeShifter or Duality 4

    2) X-Assist ( or ASM ( to give you an application switching menu in your menubar.

    3) FruitMenu ( to give you back an editable / customizable Apple Menu, to give you a hierarchical menu-view of System Prefs so you don't have to launch the entire %&## System Preferences pane and then reach with your mouse a second time to invoke the specific PrefsPane you want. And to use as a launcher.

    4) WindowShade X (, to be able to minimize windows the classic Macintosh way, not like some Windows PC-wannabe. (Will also minimize-in-place to a small icon)

    5) PullTab (, to pry that damn Dock's filthy hands off the keystoke combo Command-Tab, thus freeing it up for apps with original rights to it, like FileMaker Pro.

    6) To get your Trash can onto the Desktop where it belongs, there are several apps that purport to be able to do so, but I prefer to just use TinkerTool to make everything visible in the Finder, then make an alias to .Trash and put the alias on the Desktop. Find a nice MacOS 9ish Trashcan icon on the internet and paste.

    7) Now to dispense with the godforsaken Dock itself. Two choices: you can minimize it practically out of existence by pinning it to the left edge of your screen and then edit in a text editor, manually changing the tilesize parameter to 1, which will give you a Dock about the size of a pinhead in a place where you won't mouse-over on it very often by accident; or you can nuke it entirely. To nuke it entirely, first copy from /System/Library/CoreServices and make that copy a startup item for every user account on your machine (towards the top of the list); then make an AppleScript consisting of tell application "Dock"; quit; end tell, save it as an application, and add that to your startup items (towards the end); then, finally, sudo rm the original from within CoreServices. Hickory Dickory, baby :)

OWC and OCZ are very very similar in regards to build and firmware
I am using an agility 2 in my 2008 macbook pro which I am typing on right now
I also upgraded to 8GB of memory

you can buy crucial, corsair, OCZ or OWC, any are fine
I use an OCZ in my PC as well

Whatever you do, make sure you update the firmware ASAP, before even installing into your mac
if you have a PC, that makes it super easy, just plug it in and update
if you don't, be sure to visit the SSD manufacturers website for the one you plan to buy, many of them require you to burn a disc and boot from the DVD drive (basically you running linux off a CD) and update it that way in your mac

ITASOR, the lines you see when you put other LCDs on the wrong refresh rate: do they _really_ look like the alternate 1 pixel wide static horizontal lines on the PBs?

I only ask, because the PBs also show a variety of wider horizontal "interference" banding and wavy dynamic diagonal banding in some colours, which is worse in the top left of the screen. And I wonder if this is what you refer to.

p.s Not got your pixelmurder to do its trick yet on one rouge sticky pixel - but it's fun all the same :)

Personally, I think it's a refresh rate issue which I think is a software issue. If I put any of my LCDs on the wrong refresh rate, they have identical lines to those of the powerbook.

Anybody used a Kodak PlaySport (Zx3) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera?

    Any comments?

Any suggestions for a comparable unit that's worth taking a look at?

The issue wasn't addressed in 4.3. Apple doesn't find it a problem. They did it on purpose. Is anyone working on a way to fix this? It seems that the reduction of power has to be a software control not a hardware control thus it should be able to be changed by someone with programming/jailbreak experience. Any help would be appreciated!

Too bad - I know it can be resolved by using a powered USB hub for the connection, but that's not very elegant. I was hoping perhaps Apple would have conceded that there are some very good reasons for reinstating the 100 mA limit. On the plus side, I hadn't spent the money on the connector yet.
